Hello! I’m still here! Just. Hanging on by my fingernails to a baby’s bottom bracket. As may be observed by the accompanying photograph, motherhood has aged me somewhat – by at least 30 years and Molly seems to have grown into a dog. But such are the joys of life.

So what’s been happening lately? Well, not a lot. At least not a lot in the travelling neck of the woods. But on the domestic side – plenty. Molly is now 66cm long at full stretch, is sprouting hair and has a cyclist’s appetite. I’m about to buy her a bike helmet and bungee her to my rear rack for a taste of two-wheeled travel. I also have a bike trailer waiting in the wings so that she may recline in style while watching the blur of passing hedgerows and the elevated echelons of SUVs (Stupendously Unnecessary Vehicles) passing by her elbow.

My book about getting very wet while cycling around New Zealand (Long Cloud Ride) is now out and about. Sorry about not being able to warble on about it to anyone who might or might not be interested at any bookshop talks. I’ve had to turn down all invitations as they were all evening sessions which is not good timing when it comes to Molly as she likes to be dunked in the bath at that sort of hour prior to tucking into one’s bodily milk bar. But in August I am hoping to transport myself – with Molly and Gran in tow – to the Edinburgh International Book Festival where, on the night of the 13th, I shall attempt to string a few words together (never easy at the best of times) and show a few snapshots of my time in New Zealand – bring an umbrella – (and of the two-month rustbucket voyage there – bring a liferaft) plus possibly a few other places visited on my wheels around the world. Hope you can make it. I may need a little hand with being set afloat again.

More soon. Well, maybe not soon, but sometime before too long.
